A new art movement “POW! WOW!” has hit the Long Beach art scene bringing color and bold, graphic images to city walls and gallery walls alike.
Pow! Wow! is a “a global network of artists and organizes gallery shows, lecture series, schools for art and music, creative community spaces, concerts, and live art installations across the globe…expanding to cities and countries such as Long Beach, Taiwan, Israel, Singapore, Jamaica, Washington D.C., Guam, New Zealand, Germany and many more.”
The movement is inspired by Native American Pow Wows which are “the Native American people’s way of meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old friendships, and making new ones. This is a time method to renew Native American culture and preserve the rich heritage of American Indians.”
POW! WOW! is transforming the Long Beach art community for the better and paving the way for upcoming artists and musicians.
Check out their website http://www.powwowlongbeach.com for a mural map, progress shots, photos, videos, upcoming events, merch and information on all participating artists.
As a native Long Beach resident, I am always so proud of my diverse, art-lovin’ city!
