Board Applications Now Open!

Calliope is happy to announce that we are now accepting head editor, editorial board, and art editor applications for the 2016-17 school year. All positions are open, so please read the following descriptions.

Head Editors: 
Editor-in-Chief (Semester):  Must have strong leadership and communication skills. Primary responsibilities: manages the editorial board and communicates deadlines and other important information to them; creates a production schedule with the Managing Editor; oversees and regulates review discussions along with the Managing Editor; manages funds with the Managing Editor; communicates with the Managing Editor and Publicity Manager to organize fundraising, events, and advertising; works with the Managing Editor and Publicity Manager to design the magazine. Knowledge of InDesign recommended.
Managing Editor (Full year): Must have strong organizational and communication skills and have the ability to meet deadlines. Primary responsibilities: runs the submission process; creates a production schedule with the Editor-in-Chief; ensures that all deadlines are met; communicates with the rest of the editorial board, as well as with the printers, student body, and faculty; manages funds with the Editor-in-Chief; communicates with the Editor-in-Chief and Publicity Manager to organize fundraising, events, and advertising; oversees the design of the magazine. Knowledge of InDesign recommended.
Publicity Manager (Full year):  Must be motivated and have strong leadership skills. Primary responsibilities: functions as a board member; creates the advertising campaign with the Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief; designs flyers, posters, and other advertising materials according to ideas put forth by the board; communicates with department heads to distribute advertisements to the student body; works with the Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief to organize fundraising and events; manages Calliope blog and social media accounts, creates publishing schedule, brainstorms and implements a variety of content; works with Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief to design the magazine. Knowledge of Photoshop and WordPress recommended. Previous experience in advertising and interest in marketing or public relations a plus.

Editorial Board Member (Semester or Full year): Must have skills in constructive criticism and must be able to approach the review process in an unbiased manner.  Must exhibit professionalism and sensitivity at all times and be open-minded to styles and genres outside of their discipline or personal preference. Primary responsibilities: reviews all writing submissions to determine publication in the magazine; attends all board meetings; assists in fundraising efforts, advertising campaigns, and events.  Will report to the Editor-in-Chief.

Art Editors (Semester or Full year): Must have skills in assessing artwork from a aesthetic and technical standpoint, and must be able to approach the review process in an unbiased manner. Must exhibit professionalism and sensitivity at all times and be open-minded to styles outside of discipline or personal preference. Must have 1+ year(s) experience in university classroom workshops. Primary responsibilities include: reviewing all art submissions to determine publication in the magazine; attends art review meetings; assists with magazine design during production weekend; assists with marketing if asked.
